Die Quattro Donne zeichnen mit durchaus ironischen Unterton auf musikalische Weise vier unterschiedliche Frauencharaktere: die Resolute (La Risoluta), die Nostalgische (La Nostalgica), die Melancholische (La Melancholica) und zu guter letzt die Spöttische (La Furba), die so manchen frech an der Nase herum führt. Jeder Mensch hat, je nach Ausprägung sowohl feminine als auch maskuline Züge. Frei interpretiert nach dem Zitat „Zwei Seelen wohnen, ach! in meiner Brust“ (Goethes Faust), verkörpern dies Sopran Saxophon und Cello als die beiden Protagonisten und Solisten, begleitet vom Streichorchester.
